  • Job Summary

    The Director, Information Technology is the overall thought leader responsible for defining the means, methods, tools and people used to build, test, deploy and maintain the application portfolio for the enterprise, ideally with prior experience in the Insurance industry. This role will report to the National Lloyds CEO with matrix alignment to the Hilltop Holdings CIO.


    The person in this role is responsible for formulating and executing the strategies and tactics for building and deploying new and existing application function across the enterprise. Included in these strategies and tactics are the definition and employment of portfolio management processes; functional definition and specification, development of application systems, implementation of application development tools and techniques for productive coding, establishment of rigorous testing processes and ultimately implementation of the application code base into productive use. This role will set the direction of Infrastructure requirements and resources, partnering with Hilltop Holding shared services.

    Essential Functions

    • Define, implement and chair an application portfolio governance function responsible for the ownership, prioritization and development/implementation of applications required to support the business.
    • Create and implement a set of standards that define NLC’s development methodology and the tools used to gather requirements, build, test and deploy application code.
    • Define and direct the efforts required to stabilize the current insurance platform and develop execution plans to direct the migration efforts from the legacy insurance platform.
    • Define and direct the selection and implementation of data platforms across the company.
    • Drive the standardization and implementation of data movement tools, processes and methods.
    • Define and drive the selection/implementation of tools used to store, administer, move, analyze and visualize data and information in the company.
    • Serve as the authoritative thought-leader for defining and gathering business requirements and leading the efforts to turn requirements into application code across the company.
    • Lead highly skilled teams of analysts and programmers responsible for turning requirements into useable applications that address business needs.
    • Develop highly capable leaders responsible for leading highly technical teams.

    Job Requirements

    • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business or related field required.
    • 10+ years progressive IT and managerial experience within insurance or financial services industry.
    • 10+ years of leadership experience in application development, requirements gathering, portfolio prioritization, data movement and data visualization.
    • Must have broad exposure to all phases of software development lifecycle and requirements gathering within a variety of technologies and applications. Prior experience in defining and building insurance applications and implementing analytical tools are required.
    • Focus on internal and external customer requirements.
    • Excellent collaborating, communication, and negotiation skills to effectively serve as a leader and evangelist across the enterprise.
    • Demonstrate advanced understanding of complex business processes across the company.
    • Provide direction and leadership in key interactions with business customers to define, analyze, and deliver customer requirements.
    • Must have excellent written and verbal skills. Must be comfortable making formal presentations to senior IT management and Executive level clients.
    • Proficient knowledge and compliance with management practices, company policies, business ethics and procedures. Models, coaches and mentors other leaders in management practices.
    • Ability to coach and mentor others to analyze and resolve multiple complex problems at the enterprise level.
    • Ability to direct other leaders who manage multiple and strategic projects using the organization’s project management methodology
    • Ability to direct, coach and mentor leaders to work effectively in a strong customer service/team oriented environment.
    • Ability to direct, coach and mentor the technical and managerial development of other leaders.
    • Ability to partner with vendors, external contacts and industry standards organizations to deliver technical solutions.
    • Must have appropriate skills with the standard workstation software utilized to perform their daily duties, e.g., Word, Excel, Visio, etc.
